Cicadas were everywhere on our Wild Wilderness Wednesday adventure today. Live ones were crawling and flying. Dead ones attached themselves to trees as monuments to their lives They fascinated the children who made up their own cicada stories.
The children collected a bunch of the dead ones and suggested we might attach them to something to act as the tail for our deer. How cicadas solidly attach themselves to objects seemed to interest the children.
One child was particularly friendly to a live cicada as he held it in his hand. Another child picked mulberries to add to a deer habitat as a food gift to the deer
