This photo is an example of the collaborative work that happens in our classroom. Collaboration happens through compromise. These two children are in the process of collaboration on our observation deck.
There are cycles of moving the work forward, and then the process comes to a halt. These children know that to continue with the work, they have to reach a compromise. This happens for them through conversation. Until a compromise is reached, they know that the work is not going to grow.
For the children, it’s about moving the work forward, and not so much about the power struggle of getting their way. Again, they are mentors teaching me that the real power is about finding the source of how to move the project forward.
