I’m always in awe at how many ways the children can make blocks come alive. This week the block area has been a busy place. It’s most definitely a collaborative center. At times, the creations stand for hours or more than a day, and at other times the creations are constantly changing. The children have the right and the power to make that choice. The block area is all about a democratic right to participate in creating whatever the children feel passionate about. In their collaboration they use negotiating skills to move ahead in their work. Sometimes I enter into the play, and at other times I just sit quietly and observe, all-the-while wowed at the miracle of children’s play and their unique ability to construct their own learning experiences. What an honor to be in this role!
